The City of Avon boasts one of the few public beaches in the area. The beach is nearly connected to the Lake Wobegon Trail which runs from Sauk Centre to Avon and from Avon to St. Joseph. The Avon public beach, picnic areas, and restrooms are open to the public daily until 10:00 p.m.
BACK THE BEACH
This project aims to make the City of Avon Beach a family orientated place and keep it that way so that everyone that utilizes it feels comfortable and has an enjoyable experience. It has been brought to the attention of the police department and the city council members that there have been many times that people have not felt comfortable using the beach. We want citizens utilizing the beach to feel they can be there without having concerns for their children and family. "Back the Beach" involves patrolling of the beach by unlicensed uniformed beach patrol officers who have the authority to enforce the City of Avon beach ordinances. The beach ordinance provides for enforcement of no alcohol, no smoking, no glass, etc. as posted by signs and stated in the ordinance. The city council and the police department came to agreement that there will be no tolerance for any violation of the ordinances in order to take "Back the Beach".
